About Adopt-A-Talent

There is obviously a disconnect in the procedure of managing our Sports Development Programs and Activities. This has affected the standards achieved prior to 1980s. It is in pursuit of our re-birth and re-focus that the need to re-program in leading this great nation once again in Sports prowess, hence  a two-pronged approach – Schools Sports and Local Governments Sports drive, to be aggressively adopted and consciously followed.

“Sports to us are:

1. A tool of social engagement

2. A tool to fight poverty

3. A tool to fame and fortune

4. A tool to keep healthy souls in healthy bodies

5. A source of entertainment

It is with the above in mind, that the office of the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Grassroots Sports Development conceived this program amongst several others. The program, medium to long term, is designed to create a pool of budding talents, in our various sports, undergoing a scientifically structured training and powered by sponsors (public, private and corporate).

Though sponsors are encouraged to adopt talents in their sports of choice, His Excellency, Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN), Governor of Lagos State has approved for a pilot study, the following sports disciplines,

. Athletics – 100m. 200m. 400m. (4 x 100m 4 x 400m Relays)

. Soccer/Beach Soccer

. Basketball

. Volleyball/Beach Volleyball

. Boxing

. Table Tennis.

It is important to point out, at this juncture, that in the wider concept of this program, sponsors, depending on available funds, could adopt

. A single athlete

. A team or multiple athletes

. A sport or sporting event

. A school/club or school sports
